"Each work inhabits the space between the visible and the intimate — where human resilience takes form as image, and image becomes symbol."
Séfora Camazano

My work explores memory, identity, and the human capacity to transform adversity into strength. Through contemporary portraiture, I investigate stories that exist beyond official narratives: experiences of migration, displacement, violence, and personal reconstruction. I am particularly interested in what endures after the event itself—not the moment of the wound, but the dignity that survives it.

The Process: Between Document and Symbol

My artistic practice intertwines photography, painting, and hand-applied interventions in a continuous search for balance between document and symbol.

  • Photography serves as my starting point: a tool for observation, documentation, and active listening.
  • Painting allows me to move beyond literal representation and access a more universal and emotional dimension.

Each layer of colour, every texture, and every manual intervention forms part of a material process of transformation that reflects, in an analogue way, the complexity of human experience itself.

From the Individual to the Collective

The people who inhabit my works are real individuals; however, I am not interested in creating strictly biographical portraits. My aim is to reveal the invisible thread that connects a particular story to the experiences shared by humanity as a whole. In this way, each figure becomes a common ground where personal and collective memory converge, transforming the portrait into an archetype of resilience.

“I do not seek to portray vulnerability, but rather to present these women as the protagonists of their own narrative.”

Much of my recent body of work focuses on women who have experienced violence, migration, or social exclusion. Series such as Female Portraits: Looking Back to the Past and Female Portraits: Migrants emerge from this ethical and artistic commitment. Rather than documenting a social reality, these works seek to preserve the presence of those who too often remain unseen, functioning as acts of recognition and remembrance.

Art as a Place of Encounter

I understand art as an act of deep observation and attentive presence towards what deserves to be seen, heard, and preserved. Within my portraits, past and present coexist alongside the tangible experience and the spiritual dimension of the image. In this space, the work ceases to be a mere representation and becomes a place of encounter.
