My work explores memory, identity, and the human capacity to transform adversity into strength. Through contemporary portraiture, I investigate stories that exist beyond official narratives: experiences of migration, displacement, violence, resilience, and personal reconstruction. I am particularly interested in what endures after the event itself—not the moment of the wound, but the dignity that survives it.

The Process: Between Document and Symbol

My artistic practice brings together photography, digital painting, Fine Art printing, and hand-applied interventions in a continuous dialogue between document and symbol.

Photography is often the starting point: a space for observation, encounter, and active listening. I work with real people and real stories, building each portrait from a process that can extend far beyond the photographic session itself.

The image then moves away from the purely photographic. Through digital painting, composition, colour, and the physical intervention of the printed surface, I reconstruct it until it occupies a territory between photography and painting. Brushwork, texture, varnish, and other manual interventions make each original a singular object rather than simply a reproduced image.

This transformation is also conceptual. I am not interested in illustrating a biography or reducing a person to what happened to them. The individual story becomes the point of departure for a wider reflection on dignity, freedom, resilience, migration, memory, and belonging.

For me, portraiture is a form of encounter. It asks us to look beyond the surface of a face and recognise the complexity of another human life. The finished work carries traces of that encounter while opening a space in which the personal can become collective, and the visible can reveal something that cannot be photographed.
