Sharifa, an Afghan woman, was forced into marriage with an older man at the tender age of fifteen, due to dire family circumstances. The reality of her marriage was far from ideal. As a young girl without life experience, she faced numerous challenges and abuses. Despite these hardships, she became a mother to five children, though tragically, two of them passed away. The situation worsened when the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan. Sharifa's husband, who worked as a translator for Spanish troops, faced increasing threats, prompting him to flee to Pakistan. Sharifa, along with her three children and her severely injured mother-in-law, clandestinely fled to Iran. Their journey was fraught with peril, and upon arrival, they were arrested, abused by the Iranian police, and forced to live in dire conditions without adequate water or food. Eventually, with government intervention, Sharifa and her family managed to reach Spain. Although she now faces challenges such as language barriers, finding employment, and securing housing, Sharifa feels an immense sense of gratitude for the freedom and security she now experiences. In stark contrast to the oppression under the Taliban regime, she embraces her newfound liberty and the promise of a better future for her children.
