The Manifesto of Presence · Galerie Portraits

A gallery born from
the desire
for permanence

Galerie Portraits arises from an ontological premise: the intrinsic human desire for permanence. Its genesis lies at the intersection between the historical inheritance of portraiture and the vanguard of contemporary sensitivity.

Origin

The portrait as
legacy

The portrait has always been more than a likeness. It is a declaration of presence before time.

Historically, portraiture was the language of distinction: a visual testament of lineage and relevance reserved for aristocracy and the highest circles of society. To commission a portrait was to claim a place within the visual memory of an era.

Under the direction of its founder, artist Séfora Camazano, Galerie Portraits rescues this tradition to give it a new human and ethical dimension. What was once the privilege of a few becomes, through the gallery’s vision, an invitation to presence, identity and remembrance.

A tradition redefined

The language
of distinction

Galerie Portraits began as an atelier dedicated to the preservation of private identity: families and individuals seeking to transcend the instant through a portrait conceived specifically for them.

Its methodology transcends the capture of an image. Each work is conceived as a convergence of artistic direction, pictorial technique and photographic rigour, where space, aesthetics and atmosphere are orchestrated to create pieces with an almost palpable presence.

From the earliest commissions, the process included a careful reading of the person, the home, the desired atmosphere and the way the work would live within a private interior.

The portrait is not an object of decoration; it is a breathing entity. It is the capacity of a human presence to alter the emotional architecture of a space.

The evolution of the gaze

From the private
to the universal

I The intimate commission The practice of Séfora Camazano has moved organically from the intimate commission toward a deeper artistic exploration.
II The right to monumentality Her current work questions the democratisation of visual memory: who possesses the right to monumentality?
III The everyday elevated By portraying subjects historically excluded from the canons of representation, the gallery elevates the everyday to the sublime, granting each figure a dignity and resilience that challenge the passage of time.
IV The architecture of memory In this evolution, the portrait becomes more than a private commission. It becomes a question placed before culture itself: who is seen, who is preserved, and who is allowed to occupy the architecture of memory?
Collecting Philosophy

Collecting as a form
of presence

At Galerie Portraits, collecting is understood not as accumulation, but as a conscious relationship with works that carry identity, memory and emotional depth.

Authentic visual voices

We select artists whose work is guided by visual authenticity, conceptual depth and a distinct artistic language.

A curatorial relationship

We accompany collectors, curators and interior designers in finding works that create dialogue with the spaces they inhabit.

Identity, memory and continuity

Each acquisition becomes more than an object: it becomes a presence with meaning, history and continuity.
