From the series Female Portraits: Looking Back to the Past
Confidence forms part of Séfora Camazano’s ongoing series Female Portraits: Looking Back to the Past, in which portraiture becomes a space for memory, dignity, and critical reflection. Through women whose lives have been shaped by violence, displacement, and personal reconstruction, the series examines how resilience and identity are forged in the face of adversity.
The work portrays Alejandra, a Colombian woman who survived gender-based violence and later became the victim of financial fraud and death threats that forced her to leave her country with her daughter in search of safety. Her journey toward rebuilding her life in Spain became marked not only by uncertainty and loss, but also by an unwavering determination to reclaim her future.
Rather than approaching portraiture as documentation alone, Camazano constructs a symbolic image in which presence becomes affirmation. Alejandra’s figure embodies a quiet yet resolute strength — a reflection of emotional endurance, dignity, and the profound belief that healing and transformation remain possible even after trauma. The portrait becomes a meditation on confidence not as certainty, but as the courage to continue forward despite fear.
The series is distinguished by its fusion of photography, digital painting, and manual intervention, resulting in works of powerful material presence and conceptual depth. Each edition is produced to museum standards as a Fine Art Giclée print on archival-quality paper, and is individually signed and numbered by the artist.
The original artwork — unique and irreproducible — remains available for private acquisition upon request. Limited edition Fine Art prints are also available exclusively through Galerie Portraits.
To acquire Confidence is to enter into dialogue with a work that transcends representation: a reflection on resilience, personal dignity, and the strength required to begin again.
