Humanity: A Bridge of Love and Commitment

 
Embarcalina was born in Spain thanks to her mother’s courage, who arrived pregnant and ill after fleeing the unbearable conditions of the Sahara Desert in search of a safer future. Her family, like thousands of Sahrawis, has remained in refugee camps for over four decades, the result of an unfinished decolonization that left their people in exile. There, in the harsh Hamada—the driest part of the desert—they survive under inhumane conditions without access to clean water, electricity, or proper medical care, depending almost entirely on humanitarian aid.

Determined not to forget her roots, Embarcalina pursued a nursing degree to bring hope back to her people. Every year, she travels to the camps carrying medicines and providing medical care to family and friends, maintaining an unbreakable bond with her community.

“Humanity” encapsulates her essence: a life dedicated to remembering those who continue to resist in the refugee camps, while also raising awareness in Spain of the silenced story of her people and helping them in every way she can.
